Privacy Policy
Effective 10 October 2026 · SamLyd Holdings LLC, Alpharetta, Georgia, USA · samlydholdingsllc@gmail.com
Mushroom Wiki (the "Service": the website mushroomwiki.org and the Mushroom Wiki apps for iOS and Android) is operated by SamLyd Holdings LLC ("we"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We collect as little as the Service needs.
What we collect
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address, display name, chosen language | When you create an account | To sign you in, sync your history and collection across devices, and send account email (confirmation, password reset) and, unless you opt out, occasional product email. |
| Photos you submit for identification | When you identify a mushroom | Identification runs on your device; the photo stays there unless you ask for an online "expert second look", in which case the photo is sent to our server and to our AI provider (Anthropic) to produce the report, and a copy is stored in your account history so you can reopen it. You can delete history items or your whole account at any time. |
| Identifications, finds, game progress, listings, messages, ratings | As you use the Passport, Plot, Journal and Market | To run those features. Finds and your public passport are visible to others only if you make your passport public or add friends. |
| Coarse region (text you type, e.g. "Georgia, US") and, only if you choose, an approximate position rounded to about 1 km | When you set a region, share sightings, or post a market listing | Weather for the plot, the regional "fruiting now" feed, and distance on the market board. We never use precise location, and the apps ask the operating system for permission first. |
| Payment details | If you buy a pack or plan on the website | Handled entirely by Stripe; we receive only a customer reference and what you bought. We never see card numbers. |
| Technical logs (IP address, request timestamps, errors) | Automatically, by our hosting provider | To keep the Service running and secure. Kept briefly. |
What we do not do
- No advertising, no ad tracking, no sale of personal data.
- No contacts, microphone or background location access.
- No analytics SDKs in the apps.
Who processes data for us
Supabase (accounts and database, USA), Vercel (hosting, USA), Anthropic (AI analysis of photos you choose to send online, USA), Resend (email delivery, USA), Stripe (payments on the website). Openly licensed species photos and summaries are loaded from iNaturalist, Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons; weather from Open-Meteo and geocoding from OpenStreetMap Nominatim receive only the coarse region you typed.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account from the Account page in the app or website; it removes your profile, history, collection, listings and messages.
- Opt out of product email with the link in any message; account email (password resets) is unaffected.
- Keep your passport private (the default) or make it public with a handle.
- Ask us for a copy or correction of your data by email. Residents of the EU/UK, California and other jurisdictions have additional rights under local law, which we honour.
Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Safety notice
Mushroom Wiki gives probabilistic identifications and educational information. It is not a substitute for expert verification, and no one should eat a wild mushroom on the strength of an app.
